Hobart Selma Carter, 88, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Fulton Carter and his second wife, Vada Omega Creasy Carter.
Born September 7, 1928 in Bedford, he was a son of the late John Alvin Carter and Lucy Beadie Carter.
Hobart is also preceded in death by a brother: John Willie Carter and a sister: Margie C. Johnson.
Hobart was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war, he later joined the local coast guard, he retired from C.B. Fleet and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and just being outdoors.
He is survived by his two daughters: Vickie C. Bailey and husband, Wayne, Janet C. Oliver and husband, Barry; brother: Charles A. Carter and wife, Dot, Alan B. Carter and wife, Shelby; sister: Becky; grandsons: Tory Wayne Bailey, Andrew J. Oliver and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Richard Ecklund officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post #16
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, January 16, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
