Hugh Turman Henderson, 84, of Rustburg, VA passed away on December 2, 2014, with his family by his side.
Born in Montgomery County, May 13, 1930, Hugh was a son of the late Frank and Ida Henderson, of Blacksburg, VA.
Hugh was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He was a beloved husband and father and a great friend to many.
Hugh served his country proudly in the US Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, and The Bronze Star. Hugh retired from Westvaco with 27 years of service and loved to work for the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 61 years, Dollie Switzer Henderson; two beloved sons: Turman and Linda Henderson of New Castle, VA, and Les and Tammy Henderson of Rustburg, Va.; two grandsons, the very special grandson, Hugh T. Henderson, III, and Jojo Henderson; two granddaughters, Gina and Mark Hamilton, and Christina and Jacob Falabella; and one great grandchild, Elise Riley Hamilton.
Hugh was extremely well-loved by his family and a host of wonderful friends. He will be sadly missed by all.
A celebration of Hugh’s life will be held tomorrow, Friday, December 5, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with Reverend Jeff Worley officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family with receive friends tonight, Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Hugh asked that friends consider a memorial contribution to the Korean War Memorial or the Alzheimer’s Association.
