Hugh William MacDonell, 81, of Forest, went to be with the Lord July 8, 2016. He was the loving husband of Lisa Fratesi MacDonell for more than sixty years. Hugh honorably served in the Army National Guard and the US Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, had a long and rewarding career in higher education, and was active in the church as a Eucharistic Minister and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Hugh is survived by his wife and their children Bill MacDonell and wife Judi, of Ashburn, Va., Tony MacDonell and wife Kathy of Forest, Va., Lisa Broussard and husband Chad of Canyon Lake, Tx., and Steve MacDonell and wife Kelly of Burlington, NC; and grandchildren Anna and her husband Michael, Clay, Trevor, Kelsey, Kylie and Tori.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alan and Rachel MacDonell and sister, Maggie Donovan.

A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Lynchburg VA, Thursday, July 14 at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Msgr. Michael D. McCarron officiating. The inurnment will be a private ceremony at a later date.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
