Ingeborg “Inge” Baeker Schneider, 82, Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend
Inge was born on December 19, 1934 in Berlin, Germany and departed life on August 26, 2017 from cancer at her home in Locust Grove, Virginia after a long illness. As a young nurse, Inge immigrated to Toronto, Canada where she met and married her husband Otto. Inge then came to the United States and made her home in Windsor Locks, Connecticut where she had her two children, Christian “Chris” and Cornelia. Eventually, Otto’s job would bring her to Hamilton, Virginia.
Inge was a registered nurse and spent much of her career as Director of Nursing at Heritage Hall nursing home in Leesburg. At Heritage Hall, Inge met her best friend and lifelong companion Amy Halbert. The two traveled the world together seeking adventures and making lasting memories.
Inge moved to Smith Mountain Lake and remained in the Lynchburg area in retirement until moving to Locust Grove to be closer to her beloved daughter Cornelia and granddaughter Nadia who was Inge’s greatest joy. Inge was an avid reader and enjoyed music, politics, and spending time with family and friends.
Inge is preceded in death by her husband Otto and son Chris and survived by her daughter Cornelia and her husband Ali, granddaughter Nadia, best friend Amy Halbert, beloved dog Abby and many cherished friends.
Inge will be missed by all and will be remembered as the best mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ever ask for. Inge was an extraordinary lady possessing a combination of warmth, generosity, intellect, humor and wit.
Services will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Wednesday, August 30th at 1:00 pm. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to one of Inge’s favorite charities St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital where a memorial fund has been established.
