Ira Burton Carter

Ira Burton Carter, 82, of Thaxton, died Sunday, April 24, 2011. Ira was born in Bedford, Virginia on Monday, February 4, 1929, a son of the late Fred G. Carter and Lillie Mae Orange Carter.                    

Ira is survived by his wife Nellie Katherine Nester Carter; six children, Mary Wilson (Roger) of Moneta, Paul Carter (Teresa), Calvin Carter (Linda), Nellie Whorley (Bo), Rachel Bresett (Tom) and Marvin Carter (Patricia) all of Thaxton; six grandchildren, Kathy Krantz (Earl), Roger Wayne Wilson, Kevin Carter (Cheri), Justin \"Nerd\" Carter, Courtney Bresett and Katelyn Bresett; three great-grandchildren, Bethany Krantz, Kayley Carter and Jaidon Carter; also his sister-in-law, Gladys (Robert), Dooley of Thaxton, also numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Ira\"™s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
