Irene Elizabeth Overstreet Orange, 87, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at her residence. She was the loving wife of Rufus Cosby Orange for 67 years.
Born January 11, 1927 in Bedford County she was a daughter of the late Amos Overstreet and Gola Chesterfield Dooley Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by a son, Rufus Orange, Sr.
Irene retired from Rubatex. She was well known in the community for her baked goodies. She loved to garden and spend time canning her produce that she grew in her garden. She was active in her church when she was able to attend. She loved to get up early on the weekends to have yard sales. She also loved going out to eat with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Barbara Bess and husband, Norm, and Bettysue Orange; son: Jimmy Lee Orange; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Erma M. Orange; two sisters; and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Lafon officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the funeral home from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
