Irvin Calvin “Pete” Harris, 76, of Lynchburg, died Monday, March 2, 2015. He was the husband of the late Judith Ann Ayers Harris for 53 years.
Born Thursday, April 7, 1938, in Gladstone, Va., Pete was a son of the late Irvin T. and Emma White Harris.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Jackie Atkins and her husband, Scott, of Rustburg; four granddaughters, Kayla Whitley and her husband, Kenny, Kristen, Gina, and Taylor Atkins; a great grandson, Lucas Bryan Whitley; two sisters, Alice Butt and her husband, Bill, and Sharon Sale and her husband, Chuck; a brother, Donnie Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for over 30 years for the postal service. He loved to play softball and go to the beach, especially Myrtle Beach. Most of all he loved to eat at Crown Sterling. He served 26 years as a volunteer for the Lynchburg Postal Credit Union and was a member of the Board of Directors.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Irvin’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Dr. J. Monty Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
