Isabelle Austin Wagner, 96, died Tuesday July 29, 2014, in the Virginia Baptist Hospital.
She was born on March 26, 1918, in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Alva Carlos Austin and Ada Stevens Austin. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur C. Austin and sister, Dorothy Austin. Isabelle is survived by her two daughters, Evelynn W. Hotz and Karen A. Wagner, both of Lynchburg; a half- brother, J.E (Bud) Nickerson of McQeeney, TX, and many nieces and nephews, especially Marc Curley and his wife, Rachel, of Lynchburg.
Isabelle’s careers included being an interior decorator, store manager and store opener with J.C. Penny, Moss Brothers, C.E. Chappells, Lerner Shops and Woolco Department Stores. She was past member of the Lynchburg Art Club and an award winning artist excelling in pastels, watercolors, and oils. Isabelle was a unique child of God which led her to put His light in her paintings.
Isabelle loved animals especially her cats, Dusty, Mr. Patch and Ms. Lucy; her dog, Ginger; the birds, chipmunks and deer.
God provided to Isabelle the zeal and zest for life that enabled her to be a blessing to all who knew her. She passed on her gifts to others.
She will be missed by her care-partner, Karen (daughter), E.S. (Pete) Peters, Rachel Vukmirovich, Barbara Edgley, Katie Epley, Janina Madigan, beloved family and many friends.

Isabelle donated her body to science. Her ashes will be scattered in the “Circle of Love†flower bed at her home and a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
