Jack Carson Mitchell

Jack Carson Mitchell, age 84, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at his home. Born December 5, 1928 in Bedford; he was the only child of the late Virginia Watson and Rucker T. Mitchell.

Jack was a member and Deacon of Bedford Baptist Church. He retired as an Agent and District Manager of Southwestern Life Insurance Company with 30 years of service. Jack was a WWII disabled Navy Veteran. He was also a former member of the Bedford County of Board of Supervisors, representing District 7. He was a 50 year member of Marshall Masonic Lodge #39, a member of Lynchburg Scottish Rite, a member of Bedford and Lynchburg Shrine Clubs where he was active in The Clown Unit, and Jack was a past member of the Kazim Shine Temple.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maxine Otey Mitchell; two daughters, Virginia M. Murphy and husband, Danny of Chesapeake and Kay M. Foster and husband, Curtis of Forest; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM, Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. The family will receive friends Friday, December 14, 2012, from 6 until 8 PM at Tharp Funeral Home.
