Jack O. Holte, 81, of Madison Heights, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 1, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Doris Ann Meisel Holte for 53 years. He was preceded in death by his sister Kay Carney and his stepson Kenneth Marvin.

Born in Bainbridge, New York on April 4, 1940, he was a son of the late Olaf Holte and the late Vennis Kronkhite Holte of Harpursville, N.Y. He is survived by his brothers, Dale Holte and his wife Ann of Hummelstown, Pa. and Danny Holte of Binghamton, N.Y.

In addition to his wife and brothers, he is survived by his daughters Debora Wendel of Ithaca, N.Y., Lori Rogers and her husband Bill of Madison Heights, Va., Lisa Livingston and her husband Kory of Evington, Va. and his son, Robert Holte of Grand Rapids, Mich. Jack had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, who he adored.

Jack served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He was a dairy farmer in upstate New York for most of his life before he and Doris moved to Virginia in 1999. He was employed with the Amherst County Public School System for over 20 years. He thoroughly enjoyed working at the school and had just recently retired.

He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed traveling to Tennessee on vacation and watching baseball games. “Big Jack” as he was affectionately known by many will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights.

A celebration of Jack’s life will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Dibble officiating.
