Jack (Popeye) Neal, Jr.

September 2, 1969 — March 20, 2022

Born in Roanoke, on September 2,1969 to the late Tildon Jack Neal Sr and Susan Diane Steele Neal.

Jack was an adventure lover all his life.  He enjoyed working with his hands and building things.  From houses to model cars, he loved handy work.  He especially liked finding odd jobs that allowed him to travel.  From New York to the Carolinas, he loved every single job he found along the way.  He had a huge heart and never met a stranger and til the very end, would give you the shirt off his back if needed! His smile was contagious and his hugs were the best ever!  Along his journey in life, sadly he found addiction to alcohol.  Through many, many attempts to help him out of it, ultimately the alcohol won and his journey was cut short way too young.  For several years, he had been dealing with the physical pains that came along with his addiction, and ultimately God graciously took Jack Home, where his pain is no more.  Jack’s legacy, smile and friendships will live on thru all who knew him and loved him, as there was only one Popeye in the Roanoke Valley and he will never be forgotten!  We will miss him every single day until we meet again.  We love you Bubba, to the Heavens and back!!! Thank you for being such a fantastic little brother!!!

Those left to cherish his memories are his two sisters: Angela N (Angie) Mitchell, LCSW of Roanoke, Melissa N Isner (Richard, II) of Roanoke; his beautiful children Caitlyn, Lauren, Johnathan and special children Devin and Duane Donnell; Step-Mother Mary Neal; his beautiful ex-wife and closest friend, Alice Sizemore, who has adopted Jack’s sweet fur baby Sissy; his housemates and close friends David and Rick and especially his longtime friend Charlie; along with extended family of uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

We would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. William F. Ball and his staff (Keli) at Roanoke Family Medicine for all the tender and sensitive care he provided Jack the last few years.  We also want to give a sincere thank you to the countless doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly at RMH ER to help ease the intense pain Jack went thru at the end.

Per Jack’s wishes, there will be no ceremony or services, though a Memorial may be arranged at a later date.  His wishes were to scatter his ashes at his favorite beach, at his favorite spot, so he can spend eternity in the sun, at the ocean, where there is ultimate peace on Earth.  Fly high, Jack!
