It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Jackie Dyke Carson, a devoted wife and mother, beloved friend, and above all, servant of God. Jackie transitioned at the age of 82 on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024.
Jackie was born on November 7th, 1941 in Bedford, VA to the late Charlie Hastings Dyke and Helen Dyke Royal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Carson Sr. along with her sisters, Georgia Dyke Scott and Sally Dyke Bradley.
Jackie graduated in 1960 from Susie Gibson High School. Upon graduation she married her high school sweetheart, Billy, and began her career at Rubatex where she worked diligently alongside her many friends until her retirement.
In 1961 they welcomed their first child into the world, Vanessa Brown (Kenneth). They went on to have two sons, William Walter Carson Jr. (Cathy), and Rodney Carson (Kelly) along with special sister/daughter Gaynell Ferris (Cleve) and daughters in love, Debra Turner and Gaynelle Creasy. She is survived by four grandchildren: Ashley Brown Tanner (Keion), Alexis Brown Cardwell (David), Hunter Carson, and Taylor Carson, and one great granddaughter, Kyleigh Tanner. She was the Godmother of Tanisha Mitchell (Celia). Jackie is survived by eight siblings: Charles Dyke (Morlana), Roger Dyke (Claudia), Lindell Dyke (Linda), Henry Van Dyke (Janel), Paul Royal (Donna), Patty Hubbard, Carolyn Dudley; brother and sister-in-laws, Charlie E. Quarles Jr. (Olethia), William J. Quarles (Mozell), Richard M. Quarles (Brenda), Edna Bryant, Diane Arrington, Audrey Jackson (Lonnie), Evelyn Floyd (Sam), Robert Carson (Rosa), and Wesley Carson; and a host of countless nieces, nephews, friends, and adopted children.
She was an active member of Washington Street Baptist Church serving in many capacities including Women’s Ministries, Gospel Choir, Deaconess Board, Hospitality, and Sunday School. Her favorite hobbies outside of relentlessly praising her Lord included her early morning calls to all her friends especially Dody Hurt and Hazel Thomas, shopping trips to Vista, watching the Young & the Restless, rocking in her chair on the carport, loving on her family, and was famously known for her potato salad and pies.
Spiritually, you will live on in each of our hearts forever. You taught us how to live a life of Godliness, respect, forgiveness, and to love everyone unconditionally. We will cherish each and every memory we have with you. You and Papa laid the foundation for the Carson legacy of love, strength, and family to which we will devote the rest of our years to continuing.
Love,
Your family “always”.
