Jacqueline S. Sommer

Jacqueline Savard Sommer claimed the Promise of the Resurrection on October 8, 2017. God anointed her with generosity, kindness and love for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all her relatives and friends. She was born in West Hartford, Conn. in 1925. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents William and Pauline Savard, her beloved husband Ernest F. Sommer, Sr.; her daughter-in-law Carolyn Lewis Sommer; and son-in-law Claudie J. (Mannie) Branch.

Jackie was raised in New London, Conn. and graduated from the University of Virginia Nursing School in 1948. She married her beloved husband, Ernie, in November 1948 and celebrated 67 years together. Jackie lived in Lynchburg for the past 42 years and was formally from Newport News. She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses: Fredi S. Branch, Heidi and David Hickman, Ernie F. Sommer, Jr., Johanna and Richard Rawls, Gretchen C. Sommer, William P. (Will) Sommer, Sr., and Cheryl Ring; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Life Celebration Mass for Jackie’s life will be at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502 Friday, October 20, 2017. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the Mass will start at 12:00 p.m. with a reception following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation in her memory to your local SPCA or St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
