Pastor, Rev. Dr. James E. Abbott, Jr. departed with his angels on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Centra Health, Inc. Dr. Abbott was a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. Dr. Abbott was the son of the Late Deacon James E. Abbott, Sr. and Deaconess Shirley B. Abbott.
Dr. Abbott received Christ as his Personal Savior at an early age, at Diamond Hill Baptist Church.
Dr. Abbott E., Jr. a native of Lynchburg, Va., where he received his High School Diploma at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va. He played in the best band in the town called “The Dynatones" and he played the trumpet. Also, the band traveled up the east coast opening for groups like "Kool and the Gang" just to name one and they were known for playing at the YMCA, Battle of the Bands at Riverside Park and other local places.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee along with his master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Lynchburg College of Lynchburg, Va. Dr, Abbott served his country by enlisting in the Army as a Primary Specialty in Behavioral Science with a concentration as a Case Worker and Medical Assistant, while serving at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Dr. Abbott's Military Specialty was Marksman with a Rifle and a Sharpshooter with Hand Grenades.
Dr. Abbott was employed with Schrader-Bridgeport International for Thirty-three years. Where he enjoyed his job as a Test & Validation Technician and ministered to everyone who was place in his presence whether at work, church or in the community.
Dr. Abbott received his Doctrine Degree in the Ministry with a focus on Christian Counseling from Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, Georgia. Upon Dr. Abbott's Graduation from Covington Theological Seminary, Totally Committed Outreached Ministries was birthed, which included the Food and Clothing Ministries, Scholarship Ministries, Broadcast Ministries, and other Outreach Activities for the Youth. Dr. Abbott was ordained as a Deacon at First St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of the late Rev. Jack Wilson, Sr. Then, Dr. Abbott received his calling from God to preach the gospel and accepted his calling to preach the word at Diamond Hill Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. Haywood Robinson, Jr. Dr. Abbott received his license to Preach the Gospel in 1996 and was ordained at Hills Creek Baptist Church in Gladys, Virginia. After serving faithfully at Diamond Hill Baptist Church as the Youth Pastor, he then joined Rev. Dr. Mack Johnson, Sr. at Immanuel Christian Church in Lynchburg, Va. He served on the Board of Directors for the Youth for Truth Developmental Center in Lynchburg, Va.
Dr. Abbott has been a pillar in the community and surrounding counties for over seven decades leading from the front with true ministry with the help of God leading and guiding him. In 2004, Dr. Abbott became a life Member of the Baptist Training Union and Sunday School Congress. Dr. Abbott was a recording Artist and Producer of a Preaching and Christian DVD, and Cassette entitled: "UNSEEN HANDS" with the Youth at New Vine Baptist Church and where he released his first cassette tape, Publishing entitled "SEND IT ON DOWN". Dr. Abbott also played the Shepard's Horn, Congo's, and Percussions along with the Keyboard. Dr. Abbott in his endeavors completed a Twelve Video Sermon that captured many people, which included "It's Got to Get Better”, "What's Love Got to Do with It", "It's Time to Lose Your Mind", and "What is Your Excuse." Later, Dr. James E. Abbott, Jr. was led by Jesus Christ to Pastor at New Store Baptist Church, Farmville, Va.
Dr. Abbott leaves to cherish one Son, Deacon, Jermale E. Abbott of Central Florida, Four Grandchildren: Serenity C. Ward, Madison E. Abbott, Nicholas J.E. Abbott, Jaison M.E. Abbott; One Brother, Ricardo L. Abbott of Washington, DC; one Aunt Patricia Bolling, one Uncle, Gary Bolling both of Lynchburg, Va; Niece, Katina J. Joiner [Darelle] of Odenton, Maryland; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A devoted Brother in Christ Jesus, Trustee William Garland; and a devoted sister in Christ Jesus, Rev. Bernadette L. Jones.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg Chapel at 6:00P.M.until 8:00P.M. on Thursday, June 19, 2025. A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 at 11:00A.M. at Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Burial Park.
