James Alfred Blencowe

James “Jimmy” Alfred Blencowe, 78, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  He was the husband of Jo Anne Martin Blencowe, for nearly 60 years.

Born Monday, February 27, 1939 in Lynchburg, James was a son of the late Wallace Timothy Blencowe and the late Mary Louise Brown Blencowe.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Eugene Blencowe.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children, Jennifer Lynne Blencowe of Lynchburg, James Scott Blencowe of Lynchburg, and Elizabeth James Giarello of Neptune Beach, FL; grandchildren, Alexandra Jones Blencowe, Nicholas James Blencowe, Hannah James Blencowe, and her son Houston, all of Lynchburg; a sister, Mary Janet Blencowe Murray, and her husband, Paul, of Little Rock, AR; and one niece, Cara Hudson Owen of Nashville, TN.

Jimmy was a 1958 graduate of E. C. Glass High school where he played on the football team and held the school pole vaulting record for a number of years. He attended Ferrum Junior College. Most of his working career was spent in sales. At the time of his death, he was employed at the Sherwin-Williams Commercial Paint Store on Fort Avenue. He was once an avid golfer, and late in life, he enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
