James Alvin Peters, 80, of Huddleston, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at his residence. Born in Roanoke, VA on March 28, 1929, a son of the late Marvin Lester Peters and Bertha Cochran Peters. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Rise Peters and two brothers, Marvin Glenn Peters, and Melvin Lester Peters. He enjoyed flying, boating, square dancing and all water sports, but most of all spending time with his family and grandkids.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, of fifty years, Barbara Peters; a daughter, Deidra Mann and her husband, Robert of Moneta; four grandchildren, Erin Hale, Kaitlyn Craighead, Sarah Mann and Kindra Gresham; four great-grandchildren, Kole Hale, Melody Hale, Kadence Hale and Jason Bowles; a sister-in-law, Susie Peters; and a brother-in-law, Don Cormell and his wife, Jean of Snellville, GA.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Jude\"™s Children\"™s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Staunton River Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for a visitation with lunch to follow. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540) 586-3443.
