James Andries Tomlinson of Lynchburg died November 3, 2015, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He was born in Victoria, Virginia on September 19, 1920, and was the son of the late Robert Victor and Marie Violet Harris Tomlinson. He was the husband of the late Isabel V. Tomlinson, and preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and George Tomlinson.
He is survived by his youngest brother, Robert “Bay” Tomlinson and his wife, Betty and her daughter, Darlene Richardson; two daughters, Andrea T. Lee of Lynchburg, and Debra I. Dietrich of Unionville, Va.; and three grandsons.
Mr. Tomlinson, CPO/ADC retired as an aircraft engine mechanic from the U.S. Navy after twenty years of service from 1940 until 1960. During his tenure, he received a Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe), and National Defense Service Medal. Subsequently, he served ten years in the Reserve from 1960 until 1970. From 1961 until 1978, he was employed as a Correctional Officer by the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Lorton Reformatory.
