On February 3, 2021 James Anthony Putz went to be with the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always provided for his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosaria Putz. His children, Jennifer Alison Phelps and James Aaron Putz (Kari). And his 3 beautiful grandchildren, James Aaron Putz II (Danielle), Austin Lee Putz, and Jessika Cheyenne-Gray Wolfe Phelps. He is proceeded in death by his father, George Sr., his mother, Stella, and his brother, George.
James was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to LaSalle High School. He played football and made All Catholic in 1962. He went to Clemson University and played football while he was there. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army with Military Intelligence during the Vietnam War and received several medals such as the Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces, Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement and for being in the Republic of Vietnam, and the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.
James was involved with the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree knight as of 1985. He was the chairman for Boy Scout Troop 50 and was awarded a plaque thanking him for all his help and dedication from June 1985 to September 1992.
He loved his family and loved watching Clemson play.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
