James Troutman Bost, Sr.

James T. Bost, Sr. (Jim), 97, died on Sunday, June 1. He was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina, on February 4, 1928, to the late Reverend William Edgar Bost and Maggie Mae Dellinger Bost.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Anne Tate Bost, as well as two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by one sister, Irma Barker; four children, Kathryn Tate Mason (Ron), James T. Bost, Jr. (Catherine), David N. Bost, and William E. Bost (Cindy); five grandchildren, James T. Bost III (Asha), Daniel James Bost, Nathaniel Paul Mason (Holly), Jennifer Clare Stilwell (Zack), Kaitlin Bost Reams (Tucker); and four great grandchildren, James T. Bost IV, Elliot M. Bost, Titus James Stilwell, and Freya Marie Stilwell.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy at 17 and served in the Mediterranean on the U.S.S. Washington. Following his time in the Navy, he attended The University of South Carolina and earned his BS in Business Administration. Additionally, he spent 51 years in the insurance industry, starting with Metropolitan Life and with his son, Bill, established Bost Insurance in 1982. Jim was also a 32d Degree Mason.

Jim was an avid golfer and was a charter member and past president of Winton Country Club. He also enjoyed spending his free time at Smith Mountain Lake. He was a devout Christian and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg.
