James Bryant Cunningham Jr., 73, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, March28, 2018. He was the husband of Patsy Phillips Cunningham, for 37 years.
Born Sunday, April 23, 1944 in Lynchburg, Jimmy was the son of the late James Bryant Cunningham, Sr. and the late Frances Lee Sale Cunningham.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sisters, Linda Cunningham Ragland and Maxine Cunningham Mays, and his brother, Warren Wayne Cunningham.
In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his brother, Samuel “Dink” Eugene Cunningham and his wife Melynda; his sister, Carolyn “Pug” Cunningham Wise; three children, Pete Turpin and his wife, Laura; Nora Kluender; and Jamie Cunningham-Thompson and her husband David; and six grandchildren, Dakota, Jakayla, Madi, Blaise, Marley, and Roxy whom loved him dearly.
Jimmy proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was the owner of Cunningham Concrete Finishing. He was well known for his love of music, motorcycles, and playing cards with the boys.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday March 30, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Celebration of Jimmy’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at Heritage Baptist Church (across the street from the funeral home), with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
We wish to thank Betty DeLara and Ernestine Anthony for their care over the last few years. They were so much more than nurses and care givers to Jimmy.
