James Carlton Tester

James Carlton Tester, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015. He was the husband of Dorothy Crowell Tester for sixty-six years.
Born in Bristol, Tenn. on Saturday, August 20, 1927, he was a son of the late Coy Nelson Tester and the late Verna Sisk Tester.
Carlton proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. After his service, he owned a jewelry store in Pulaski, then came to Lynchburg to work for Grant E. Key Fixture Co. as a draftsman, estimator, and salesman. He later started his own business in Lynchburg, Tester Cabinet and Fixture Co., where he made many friends and left behind many beautiful cabinets throughout the area. Carlton was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to a number of civic organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Tester; a sister, Clara Nell Campbell; and a son-in-law, Paul Carroll.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, David C. Tester and Thomas W. Tester (Linda); two daughters, Donna Powers (Stephen) and Martha Carroll; two brothers, Robert R. Tester and Dr. Richard D. Tester; four grandchildren, Ashley Tester Meyers, Megan Stetson, Aaron Powers, and Michael Carroll; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Meyers, Blake Meyers, Natalie Meyers, and McKenna Meyers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday September 23, 2015, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
