James E. Lee

November 18, 1926 — August 29, 2021

James Edward Lee, 94, of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was the husband of his very best friend and love of his life, Jennie Wallace Lee, for 74 years.

Born on November 18, 1926, in Charlotte, NC, Jim was the son of the late Walter Earl Lee and the late Lucy Litton Lee. One of eight children, he is survived by his youngest brother, Jon David Lee.

At age 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably in the Philippines from 1944- 1946, achieving the rank of sergeant.

Jim was a life -long student of the Bible. In his earlier yeas, he was very active in his church and served the Lord as a youth leader, Bible study leader, deacon, elder, treasurer and lay pastor. He played an integral role in establishing and building Forest Alliance Church in Forest, VA.

As his health declined, Jim’s focus shifted to his large and growing family. Nothing delighted him more than spending time with his loved ones. Whether relaxing at the beach or gathering around the table to celebrate holidays and special events in his loved one’s lives, Jim treasured being in the company of his family.

Jim’s passions were; his Savior; his wife, Jennie; his two daughters and their spouses, Pat and Glenn Phillips and Jan and Lee (Dec.) Swain; his nine grandchildren and their spouses- Jen Phillips, Shannon and Cori Phillips, Chris Phillips, Brendan Phillips, Joshua Phillips, Megan Phillips, Brett and Hailey Phillips, Ryan and Karissa Swain, Caitlin and George Sink; his fourteen great-grandchildren and their spouses and his two great great grandchildren. To all of them, he was their beloved “Poppy”.

In addition, Jim was a faithful prayer warrior for his brother, Jon; brother-in-law, Lloyd; sister-in-law, Patt; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

An outdoor service celebrating Jim’s life and safe arrival “home” with JESUS will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Forest Alliance Church, 1562 Thomas Jefferson Road, Forest, VA 24551.

Following the service, family will gather at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551.

While our hearts are saddened by this momentary separation, as a family we rejoice with great gladness and thanksgiving that our “Poppy” is whole and healthy, pain free and fully alive in the living presence of our heavenly Father, Precious Savior, and Loving Holy Spirit.
