James Edward “Jim” Jones, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home.
He was a proud graduate of Marshall College, as well as a U.S. Air Force veteran who fought in the Korean War. He retired from Framatome after many years of service. He was an avid coin collector and a long-time volunteer with the American Red Cross. He scored the first two points in the new Williamson Field House which put him in the Williamson High School Hall of Fame.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Millie Jones; a daughter, Karyn Lovekamp (Scott) of Goode; his grandchildren, Brennan Lee (Rebecka) of Madison Heights, Jaime Brugh (Jamey) of Moneta, Aaron Canada of Lynchburg, Whitney Ball (Josh) of Bedford, and Patrick Lutz of Lynchburg; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Shelor.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Rev. William Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Virginia Memorial Park. A reception will follow the interment at the home of his daughter, 1205 Bradford Crossing Place in Goode, VA.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s honor to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
