James Elza Burnette, Sr.

James E. Burnette who was currently residing in Appomattox, VA passed away on May 25th. He was born and raised in Bedford County, VA — born in Huddleston on February 19, 1934, growing up in Forest, and graduating from New London Academy in 1951.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marian Johnson Burnette, and parents, Barney L. and Nannie Maude Burnette.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Ward, Corbin, Warren and Barney Burnette and sisters Virginia Tolley and Lois Reynolds-Trent.
He was survived by children Joyce B. Bradford, James E. Burnette, Jr., Edwin G. Burnette, and Wendell L. Burnette and 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters Kathlene Hunley, Loraine Trent and her husband David, and Shirley Witt and her husband Preston and brother-in-law William C. Johnson and his wife Ellen.
A Celebration of James’ Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home.
