James Featherston

James Featherston went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Lynchburg, VA on February10, 1934 to the late Arthur and Matilda Featherston. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha B. Featherston; four children, Vickie Kennedy, Brenda Taylor, a devoted daughter Katherine Featherston and devoted son, James L. Featherston (Sheleeta); three grandchildren, Lauren Kennedy, Christina Taylor, and Justin Featherston; Three great-grandsons, Cameron Perpignan, Caleb Perpignan, and Lincoln Kennedy.
James was preceded in death by his three sisters Alberta Payne, Bessie Epps, and Edna Crews. He is also survived by one brother, Raymond Featherston of Las Vegas, NV and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, and his special fur babies (Max, Ruby, and Leo) and friends.
James received his high school diploma while in the U.S. Army where he held the rank of sergeant. James was enlisted in the service for five years, nine months and 24 days. While in the army he received three medals, an army occupation medal, good conduct medal and national defense medal. After his honorable discharge from the army, James worked and retired from C&P Bell Atlantic after 38 years of service. When he retired from the telephone company, he opened his own business, Featherston Telephone Communications, for eight years.
James was baptized at the early age of 10 years at 5th Street., Baptist Church. He later joined First Baptist Church South Lynchburg his wife’s home church. He worked diligently at First Baptist and headed up many projects for the church. He loved the Lord and loved helping others. James was always ready to help others. He had an excellent work ethic and didn’t mind working. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was proud of them all; he lived a great life of 89 years.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Lynchburg, VA. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Burial Park.
