James Harlan DeMasters, 85, of Goode died Monday September 19, 2011. He was the devoted husband of Janice Whorley DeMasters.
James was born April 3, 1926 in Roseland the son of the late James R. DeMasters and Elva Monroe DeMasters Fauber. James honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, was a Sales Representative with the Carolina Shoe Company for 23 years, a dedicated member of the Gideon\"™s International, the Northwest Camp, and served as a deacon with Lakewood Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons: Joseph Carlyle and his wife Twila of Lynchburg; Dr. J. Neil DeMasters of Salem; and Mark Allen DeMasters of Richmond, a step-son Brad Whorley of Goode, a step-daughter Beverly Williams and husband Randall of Oxford, NC, a grandson Dr. Gerald DeMasters of Richmond, and five step-grandchildren: Monica W. Lones and husband Brad of Richmond, KY; Amanda Austin and husband Adam of Evington; Katherine Williams of Hickory, NC; Jacob Williams of Chapel Hill, NC; Alex Williams of Raleigh, NC; and a special mother-in-law Fannie L. Holliday of Goode.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Elaine DeMasters and his second wife Nancy Ingham DeMasters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 22, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A Celebration of James\"™ Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday Sept. 23, 2011 at Lakewood Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Manley officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
