James “Jimmie” Lackey
James McNeely Lackey, \"Jimmie,\" 88, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Homer Holt \"Buddy\" Lackey, Jr. She was a daughter of the late James Edward McNeely and the late Etta Simpson Farmer McNeely of Keeling, VA in Pittsylvania County.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cathryn McNeely Jones and her husband, Charles Evans Hughes Jones; two sisters-in-law, Anna Lackey Schaefer and her husband, Edmund Schaefer, III, and Martha Lee Lackey; and a nephew, Charles Sidney Jones.
Jimmie was a graduate of Dan River High School, Danville, VA and Phillips Business College, Lynchburg. She worked at WLVA Radio and TV, currently WSET in Lynchburg. She later worked for Edmunds and Williams law firm. Formerly she was an active member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church and more recently a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Suburban Woman\"™s Club and the Woman\"™s Club of Lynchburg. After retirement, she was a Stephen Minister and a volunteer for Hospice of the Hills and Lynchburg General Hospital.
She is survived by her only daughter, Nancy Stuart Lackey, of Danville, KY.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at The Summit independent living facility on Enterprise Drive, Lynchburg. A Celebration of Jimmie\"™s life will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Etheridge and the Rev. Chuck Willoughby officiating. Interment will be private in Spring Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 21206 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
