James Josiah Washburn, 26, of Lynchburg, passed away February 28, 2017.
James came to the home of Loren and Donna Washburn to be taken care of in 1993, at the age of 3 years old. They took him in as a foster child and eventually adopted him in 1997, officially making him part of their family.
James thrived in their home and under their care as they raised two biological children and took care of other special needs children and family members in their home. He was excited every time he watched NASCAR on TV. He enjoyed the sunshine, music, car rides and family and friends loved hearing him sing and laugh.
James is preceded in death by his grandparents Jean and Melvin Canby and Jay and Caroline Washburn.
James is survived by his brother Jonathan Washburn; sister, Jennifer (Clifton) Griffin, and nephew, Hamilton Griffin. James’ family would like to thank everyone who was special to him and took care of him during his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to iKids at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their support in his final hours.
