James Lewis Cyrus, 71, of Forest went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his loving, devoted wife of 49 years and his two daughters, Tammy and Tina.
Born on September 26, 1948 in Lynchburg, James is the son of Mary C. Cyrus and the late Rev. Edward Cyrus.
In addition to his wife Barbara, James is survived by his daughters Tammy West and husband, Johnnie, Tina Anderson and husband, William; three grandchildren K.W. Lakes and wife, Justine, Hailey Surratt and husband, Austin and Zachary Anderson; four great-grandchildren Colton Lakes, Wesson Lakes, River Surratt and Oakley Surratt; step-grandson Austin West and wife, Mackenzie; brothers Morris Cyrus and Mike Cyrus; sisters Patsy Taylor and Jane Francis. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Cyrus.
James was known for his love of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and enjoyed collecting baseball and football cards. James was a dedicated, hard worker for Archer Creek Foundry for over thirty years as a Water Plant operator before retiring.
James served his country in the U.S. Air Force after graduating E.C. Glass High School. Although work and the military were a large part of his life, his wife; daughters and grandchildren always came first.
He was a true servant of his lord and savior and always put others needs first before his own. James was a lifetime member of Bible Baptist Church in Lynchburg, where his father was the founding pastor.
There will be no family night, but friends and others may come by Tharp Funeral Home to view the body through Sunday, June 7, 2020. A graveside service will be Monday, June 8, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends and family at other times at the home of his daughter, Tina Anderson 1314 Hupps Lane, Forest, VA 24551.
