James Albert Manley, 88, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, June 26, 2011.
James was born July 5, 1922 in Lynchburg, the son of the late James Ford Manley and the late Leila Mayes Manley. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School during the big band era and eventually went on to work for the government, War Department, in the Pentagon handling secret documents.
James was an ordained deacon and had also taught Sunday school for 15 years at College Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. In addition to his church activities, James was active with Lynchburg Parks and Recreation, and enjoyed traveling to see band leaders and the scenery around him.
A celebration of James's life will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 with Rev. Becky Cloud officiating in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
