James Nelson Booker

January 15, 1934 — December 29, 2014

James Nelson Booker of Lynchburg, Virginia took his last breath on Earth after 80 years on December 29, 2014. He was the husband of Elizabeth Hale Booker for 55 years.

James was born on January 15, 1934 in Lynchburg to the late Nelson Thomas Booker and the late Celia Taylor Booker. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Booker Ford and one brother, Arthur Lee Booker. James was a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired as an Inspector for the Lynchburg Foundry and was a faithful member of the Club Caballero and White Rock Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Wayne Booker of Newport Beach, California, two daughters: Michelle Lynette Booker-Brooks (Walter) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Danielle Booker-Perry of Greensboro, North Carolina. He is also survived by one sister, Amanda Booker Hunting of Lynchburg and one brother, Oscar Lewis Booker (Margurite) of Lynchburg. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Desmond Andre Jenkins (Carmen) of Durham, North Carolina, Lauren Cary of Wise, Virginia, Jamie Michelle Perry of Richmond, Virginia, Taylor Elizabeth Robinson of Port Hueneme, California, and Storm Phillip Michael Booker of Chicago, Illinois. He also leaves behind many devoted in-laws: George W. Ford, Sr. of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mary F. Booker of Madison Heights, Virginia, Alvalaz Anthony of Lynchburg, Virginia, Lillian Hale Grant of Augusta, Georgia, Cindy and Gerald Thorpe of Chesterfield, Virginia and Jackie W. Hale, Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia – including many nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of James’ life will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricardo Hailstock officiating.
