James Arthur Nowlin, Jr, lovingly known as “Jr” to family and friends, transitioned peacefully from earth to eternity on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his residence in Rustburg, Va. Born on June 17th, 1955, he was the son of the late James Arthur Nowlin, Sr, and Beulah Elliott Nowlin.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife Stephanie James Nowlin.
James is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Nowlin; one son, James A Nowlin, III; two step-sons, Christopher James and Benjamin James; one brother, Donald “Pete” Nowlin; three sisters, Rosetta Nowlin, Gloria Mack, and Shawntae Nowlin; five grandchildren, Traquan Tweedy, Zyon Tweedy, Donte’ Smith, Jyala Saunders and Jessamyn Nowlin; seven great-grandchildren, Jor’Dyain Nowlin, Ty’Meke Davis, Ta’Layah Davis, Tyree Thornton, Jr., Kyrie Thornton, Kennedy Johnson, Zaion Tweedy; four nieces, Veronica “Roni” Nowlin, Jaquetta Nowlin, Deonise Nowlin and Carmella Johnson; two nephews, Kevin Nowlin, Jamel Easley, and a host of many cousins and friends.
James lived his life the best he knew. He loved his family and would make a point to express it as often as possible, whether it be with kind words, his comical personality but most of all bible scriptures. For he absolutely loved the Lord and every time you’d see or come in contact with him, he’d have no problem with expressing his unwavering love for Christ. Jr, loved church and spent a majority of his time in Sunday school, bible study, revival services, and weekly Sunday service if his health permitted. Though just like any other, his life wasn’t perfect but through it all as he’d always say, “I AIN’T WORRIED OR DISTURBED.”
