James Owen Key, 84, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born January 4, 1928 in Bedford County, a son of the late Alma Katherine Meador Key and Jimmie Tooms Key.
James was a member of Peaks Presbyterian Church. He was a self-employed dairy farmer who loved the outdoors and mowing grass. He cherished his John Deere equipment, especially his John Deere lawn mower. Above all, James did love time spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Anne Newman Key; a grandson, David Blake Mayhew and a brother, Granville H. Key. He is survived by three children, Margaret Mayhew and her husband, Tony, Paul Key and his wife, Susan and Elizabeth Maxey and her husband, Loren; six grandchildren, Michael Mayhew, Adam Mayhew and his wife, Sarah, J.P. Key, Jr. and his wife, Amy, James Maxey, Tyler Key and Garret Maxey; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Mayhew, Emma Mayhew, Anna Mayhew and Noah Key; two sisters, Ruby Craghead and Margaret Campbell; a sister-in-law, Peggy Key; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
