James Preston Pearce, 82, of Big Island, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Albert Pearce and Christine Clark Pearce; a daughter, Diane Marie Pearce; a sister Gracia Louise Burton; and a brother Henry Eugene Pearce. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Shirley Marie Presley Pearce.
James is survived by a daughter Deborah Coleman (Roger), a son James Pearce, Jr. (Lisa) and four grandchildren: Brandon Pearce (Ally), Jacob Pearce, Hayley Garland and fiancé James, and Heather Pribble and great grandchildren Larke, Graeson, Hope, Gunner, and soon to be born, Willow.
James proudly served the City of Lynchburg for 32 years as a Firefighter, having reached the rank of Commander III/Deputy Fire Chief. He also retired from Sears & Roebuck after 29 years in the electronics department. Using his electronics expertise, he helped design the 911 system for the City of Lynchburg. He was a member of First Christian Church and served his country in the Army National Guard.
James was a devoted and caring father, always willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear. He was a jokester and very involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. You could always count on a daily phone call and a nightly text. He loved repairing and tinkering with electronic devices.
The family will receive friends to celebrate James’ life from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
