James “Jim” Richard Grachan, 56, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015.
Born January 10, 1959, in Chicago Ill., Jim was the son of Richard and Carol Grachan of The Villages, Fla. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Steve Grachan.
In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his best friend, Sidnie, the “Brat Cat”; two sisters, Debi Lacy and her husband, Tommy, of Lady Lake, Fla., and Sharon Rolfes and her husband, Mark of Forest, Va.; and his brother, Tony Grachan and Rhonda Tomlin of Forest, Va. His loving family also includes his nieces and nephews, Keely Dooley and her husband, Heath, and Jenny Grachan, all of Lynchburg, Melissa Harman and her husband, Hill of Riverside, Calif., Heather Rolfes of Hamden, Conn., Ricky Llewellyn of Lady Lake, Fla., Matt Grachan of Reston, Va., Andy Rolfes and his fiancé, Brittany Mazanetz of Newport News, Va.; and his great nieces and nephews, Tatum Llewellyn and Emma Dooley, both of Lynchburg, and Charlie Harman of Riverside, Calif., a special friend of the family, Father Dennis Murphy of Pawtucket, RI.
Jim was an extraordinarily talented artist and musician. The media he worked in included watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, clay, pencil, and 3-D graphic art. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Notre Dame. His passions included history, planes, trains, Legos, movies, Halloween, and Christmas. Jim thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with Friday Cheers and working with his friend and neighbor, Donna Kelly, at Charley’s Catering.
Friends of the family are invited to share memories of Jim on Monday, May 4, 2015, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home on Breezewood Drive. Jim will be inurned at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 12:15 p.m. A small reception will follow the service.
