James Russell Lampman, 98, died February 24, 2015, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was born March 7th, 1916, in Lansing, Mich.
He was the husband of the late Jeanne Francis Houghton Lampman for 62 plus years. He worked as a chemist for over 33 years for General Electric Company at several locations, including Syracuse, N.Y., Cocoa Beach, Fla., Valley Forge, Pa., and Lynchburg, Va.
He served in WWII for 2 years on Guam in a photo Recon Squadron of the Air Force, and was awarded the Bronze Star.
His principal hobby was non-professional theatre. He played in over 89 plays, many of them in lead parts. At one time, he appeared in a play with the noted actor Charles Coburn. He also had a part in a movie, made for GE by the March of Time newsreel organization in 1950. It was widely shown, and won third place in the industrial Division of the Cannes Film Festival.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence E. Lampman and his wife, Mary, who live in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Richard A. Lampman and his wife, Kathy, who reside in Canton, Ga.
At Mr. Lampman’s request, no services are planned. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of James Lampman, to the Westminster-Canterbury Fellowship Fund.
