James Scecina

James (Jim) Scecina, 76, of Moneta, VA passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, after a brief illness.  He was the husband of Susie (Clawson) Scecina.

Jim was born in Gary, IN on February 22, 1948, the son of the late Thomas J. and Alice F. Scecina.  Jim graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1970.  He began his engineering career at U. S. Steel Gary Works and then worked at Georgetown Steel, Georgetown, SC.

In 1982, Jim and Susie moved to Forest, VA and continued his career as a Principal Engineer at Areva.

Jim retired in 2014 and moved to Smith Mountain Lake where he enjoyed boating, fishing, playing golf and brewing beer.  Always the engineer, Jim enjoyed designing and building projects and continued doing so after his retirement.

Jim is survived by his wife Susie, his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Niki Feagans Scecina of Evington, VA, his daughter and son-in-law Alison and Jeff Haas of Plympton, MA and his grandchildren Jack, Alex and Emmie Scecina and Zach and Sam Haas.  He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Mike Mihelich of Riverside, CA, sisters-in-law Peggy Scecina, Sarah Clawson-Schuch (Denny), Martha Clawson, Mary Schott (Tom) and Jennie Means (Ike), and special friends Roy and Doris Pennington.  In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother Thomas G. Scecina, his sister Joan M. Serfaty and his in-laws Art and Ariel Clawson.
