James Thaddous Stanley
James Thaddous Stanley, 82, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, December 10, 2011. He was the husband of Viola Hammack Stanley for 55 years.
Born Wednesday, October 04, 1929 in Amherst County, James was a son of the late Mary Guill Stanley and William Stanley.
In addition to his wife James is survived by five children: James Lee Stanley and his wife Maria, of Lynchburg, Patsy Stanley Scruggs and her husband, Mike, of Altavista, Jerry Stanley, of Lynchburg, E. Glen Stanley, of Lynchburg, and Carl Stanley, of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a brother in-law; Melvin Smith, of Lynchburg; and two sister in-laws: Eva Stanley, of Palm Coast, FL, and Doris Stanley, of Lynchburg.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by five brothers: Earl, George, Leroy, Melvin, and Pat; and three sisters: Nellie McFaden, Rachael Williams, and Lula Smith.
James proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the City of Lynchburg where he worked for 34 years at the city\"™s water department. James loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors, especially spending time on the parkway.
A Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Maj. Fred Thornhill officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
