James "Tink" Addie Crabtree

March 23, 1929 — February 24, 2016

James Addie Crabtree, 86, of Rustburg, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was the husband of Rosa Jean Goff Crabtree for 59 years.

Born Saturday, March 23, 1929 in Campbell County, Tink a son of the late Addie James Crabtree and the late Lou Whitlow Crabtree.

In addition to his wife, Tink is survived by his son Barry James Crabtree and his wife, Veronica, of Concord, four grandchildren, Derrick Crabtree and his wife, Amy, of Concord, Brandon Crabtree and his wife, Kate, of Lynchburg, Amber Roach, of Concord, and Cari Crabtree, of Lynchburg, five great grandchildren, Kaizley Roach, Olivia Tyree, Emery Crabtree, Cash Crabtree, and Afton Crabtree, two sisters, Lila Carr, of Brookneal, and Catherine DeJarnette, of Suffolk, special nieces, Cheryl Handy, Sheila Norris, Jane Litchford, Robin Jefferson, and Susie Holt, and other numerous nieces and nephews, and his canine companion, Rocky.

In addition to his parents, Tink was preceded in death by three brothers, Whitlow, Franklin, and Wallace Crabtree, and four sisters, Sterling Fariss, Jane Henderson, Charlotte Carr, and Cecile Swazey, and a nephew, James S. Carr.

Tink honorably served our country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the US Army. He loved his family, his cabin, and hunting. He was a very loving and giving person, who enjoyed sports and went to all of his grandchildren’s games and activities.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Mark Grooms officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Rustburg Fire Department, P.O. Box 206, Rustburg, VA 24588, or to Cumbie Memorial Cemetery, 665 Rocky Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588.

The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Hills Hospice for the excellent care they gave to Tink.
