James Wayne Hatcher 80, of Bedford passed away at his home on January 20, 2021. He was born on February 26, 1940 in Lynchburg, VA. He was a son of the late Harry Elshia Hatcher and Marian Frances Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer Hatcher.
Wayne was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He drove a truck for Gulf Oil for many years before starting his career with Sam Moore Furniture where he retired. Wayne loved tinkering with motors of all kinds especially go karts. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, of 56 years, Orpha Bowden Hatcher; two children, Kimberly Hatcher Crognale and Kevin Hatcher and his wife, Kathy; five grandsons, Tyler Hatcher and his wife, Hannah, Dylan Hatcher and his wife, Katie, Anthony Crognale and his fiancée Hillevi, Alex Crognale and Austin Crognale; one step grandson, Kyle Hogan; three great-grandchildren, Emerson Hatcher, Jena Hatcher and Baby Gannon Hatcher; one step-great-grandson, Ash Hogan; three sisters-in-law, Jeanine Hatcher, Glenneta Garman and Sue Preston. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Wayne’s life will be conducted at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Grace Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service also at the church.
The funeral service will be live streamed by Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
