James W. Lightner, age 72, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital from a blood infection. Jim was born in Syracuse N.Y. to John and Elizabeth Lightner. He was one of five children.
Jim graduated from Holy Cross Catholic High School and Louisburg Junior College. After spending his younger years working at Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation, Jim became a Walmart associate where he was known for his strong work ethic and customer service.
As a young adult, he was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis. As a disease which affects your physical appearance, Jim never complained about his condition – always wearing short sleeves as he believed the Lord made him that way, he wasn’t going to hide it.
He is predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Dan. He is survived by his brother William Lightner of Forest, his sister Linda Davis of Louisa and his sister Kathleen Paris of Warrenton.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
