Jane Hargrave Johnson, 98, passed away peacefully at home May 30, 2016.
Born December 19, 1917 in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Jane met her husband Vassar (Cy) Johnson while both worked at The New York Hospital in New York City. Married fifty-six years, Vassar predeceased her in 1998.
Jane is survived by her loving children: four sons, and one daughter, Frank and Zelda Johnson of Westerville, Ohio, Richard and Elaine Johnson of Euless, Texas, Robert and Pam Johnson of Augusta, Kansas, Betty and Jedd Zaring of Forest, Virginia, and Charles and Charlene Johnson of Amesbury, Massachusetts. A very proud grandmother and great grandmother, at 98 Jane kept up with all ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren’s activities and birthdates.
In addition, Jane is survived by a sister-in-law, Marilyn Hargrave of Durham, North Carolina, and several adoring nieces and nephews. All that knew Jane admired her incredible memory for details, humor and positive attitude.
Jane and Cy moved to Lynchburg Virginia in 1978. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Fort Hill Woman’s Club as she was an avid bridge player. She volunteered for the American Cancer and American Lung Associations through 2015.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr. Dwight Oldham for his caring attention for over twenty years and to Centra Hospice for their amazing care over the past eight months.
Family and friends will gather in late summer in White Plains, NY to celebrate Jane’s life. Jane will be interred next to Cy at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
