Jane King Weeks Murray, 98, of Bedford, VA died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation. She was born May 9, 1916 in Roanoke, VA to the late Hallie Woods Weeks and T. A. Weeks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Murray, Sr., her sister, Phyllis Martin, and her grandson, Wade D. Murray. Survivors include daughter, Sue Murray Craghead of Bedford; son, Guy E. Murray, Jr. and his wife Rosalie of Bedford; grandchildren, Allison Karnes and her husband, Timothy (T.T.) of Bedford, David Copeland of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Melinda Bhandari and her husband, Harish of Darien, CT and Jennifer Kovel and her husband, Jeff of Portland, OR, great grandchildren, Drew Karnes, Martha Karnes, and Anna Karnes of Bedford, Tripp Laughon and Walker Laughon of Darien, CT, and Lola Kovel and Violet Kovel of Portland, OR.
Jane attended Jefferson High School in Roanoke, VA. She was a member of Main Street Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a charter member of the Bedford Historical Society, and also a member of the Blue Ridge Garden Club and Bedford Book Forum. She loved her family, her home and working in her yard and flower gardens.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Oakwood Manor Nursing Home at Bedford Memorial Hospital for their caring service.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr. officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 212 E. Main St., Bedford, VA 24523 or the charity of your choice.
