Mrs. Janet Edith Carr Marlin, age 93, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on November 1, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Albert Edwin Carr and Edna Meeds Carr, and the wife of the late William Donald Marlin, Jr. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Marlin is predeceased by her four sisters and one brother.
Janet was born on November 16, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended school at Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, then pursued her career as a Registered Nurse.
Janet was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, reading, bird watching, storytelling, visiting the orchard, preserving and canning, sharing the bounty with neighbors and friends, antiquing, stamping and card making. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states, and many countries in Europe. She would journal all of their journeys, while Don took the pictures as an amateur photographer. After retirement they lived at Smith Mountain Lake for many years, and were instrumental in building the Trinity Ecumenical Church in Moneta, VA, where they were active members. She was a member of the Scottish Rite Women’s Club and was a Lady Shriner Noblette.
Mrs. Marlin is survived by her daughters, Lynn Carr Marlin Carter (Jim), Carleen Marlin Stidham (Glenn), and Roxanne Marlin Jenkins (David); son, William Donald Marlin, III (Leslie); six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brother, Albert Edwin Carr; and many loving and lifelong friends.
We wish to thank the caregivers of Visiting Angels for taking such exceptional care of our mother, especially Barbara, who was lovingly devoted to her care for over 3 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kazim Shriners of Roanoke. The mission of Shriners is to help children receive free medical care for orthopedic issues, burns, spinal cord injury and cleft lip palate. Mr. Don Marlin was a dedicated Kazim Shriner in Lynchburg. Janet accompanied Don on several trips to drive local children to Shriner’s Hospitals to receive treatments.
