Janet Williams Garner died on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at home with the support of family and friends after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-nine years, W. Thomas Garner.
Janet was the only child of the late Kenneth L. and Jeannette K. Williams. She was born on November 7, 1930, in Lynchburg. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1948, and later graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College in 1952. She loved art and music, painted wonderful pictures and portraits, and was an excellent pianist. She taught in Lynchburg City Schools for a short period.
Janet is survived by four daughters, Mary G. Kidd (Gene) of Lynchburg, Robin G. Sheppa (John) of Columbia, Ohio, Beverley L. Garner of Coleman Falls, and Bonnie L. Garner of New York City, N.Y. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Martha C. Kidd (Richard L. Barnes, II) of Arlington, Carolyn A. Kidd (Christopher E. Duren) of Charlottesville, Jeanette M. Sheppa of Washington, D.C., and J. Garner Sheppa (Rebecca) of Columbus, Ohio.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
