With sadness, we notify everyone of the passing of Janet Louise Gray, 85, of Lynchburg on May 1, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Verla McCandless. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Gray, after 46 years of marriage.
Janet was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska, in June of 1939. She grew up in a very rural part of Nebraska before becoming a city girl. She graduated from North Platte High School and afterwards, managed college classes while raising three children. A few years after marrying Joe, they packed up the family and moved to north central Florida. Then, they moved again to Lynchburg, Virginia in the early 1970s and there she stayed. She did travel a lot and even jumped over to Spain.
For the last 30 years, Janet had been actively quilting with the Quilting Guild. All of the family and friends have homemade quilts that they could display for all to see. Janet was very proud of her efforts and won awards for her crafts. She loved every aspect of quilting, and especially the members of the Quilting Guild.
Janet wanted to thank several friends that had special meaning to her including Larry, Alex and Rita who all provided support to her for many years of her life .
Janet is survived by her brother Gary McCandless; her sons, Christian and Aaron Fellhoelter; her daughter, Kendra Banton; her grandson, Chase Fellhoelter; her granddaughter, Nicole Fellhoelter; and great-grandchildren, Lyle, Joshua, and Elliana.
She is with God and no longer with pain. Rest In Peace!
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
