Janice Elaine Hindman

March 2, 1945 — June 12, 2025

Janice Elaine McCall Hindman, 80, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2025, at Heritage Green Nursing Home in Lynchburg Virginia.

Born on March 2, 1945, in Walhalla South Carolina, Janice was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Nellie McCall. She graduated from Walhalla High School in 1963. That same year she was crowned Miss Walhalla and went on to compete in the Miss South Carolina pageant. Janice attended Winthrop College where she played basketball and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology in 1967. She then married the love of her life, Donald Lee Hindman. Together they shared a Christ centered marriage, raising their two sons in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

In the 1970s-1980s, Janice served as a medical technologist at Meese Hospital in Dunedin, Florida. She had a servant’s heart, freely giving her time to comfort the sick and care for those in need—a beautiful expression of her faith and deep love for Jesus.

After relocating to Virginia in 1985, Janice worked for Jerry Falwell's, Moral Majority, and later, as a secretary and editor at Heritage Baptist Church. She was a devoted member of Heritage Baptist Church for many years before becoming a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. Following retirement, she volunteered at the Forest Public Library and enjoyed visiting with her book club friends. She was an avid reader and known for her devotion to scripture, her commitment to prayer and her heart for mentoring.

She is survived by her sons, George Matthew Hindman and his wife, Catherine and Jonathan Lee Hindman and his wife, Julie. Also, by her grandchildren: Tabitha Lee Hindman Huizinga and her husband, Teddy; John Patrick and his wife, Collyn; Andrew William, Savannah Renee and Charlotte Wren. She is also survived by her sister, Debbi McCall Youland, as well as many nieces and nephews. Janice was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers, Jerry and Dennis McCall.

A service celebrating Janice's life and her eternal homecoming will be held on June 28,2025 at Tharp Funeral Home: 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Visitation at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

Janice leaves a legacy not just of what she did—but of who she was. Above all, she walked humbly with God, and her life reflected the beauty of a heart devoted to Him. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered until we meet again.
