Janice Ann Wood

Janice Ann Rice Wood, 80, of Lynchburg, was called home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2025; born on June 16, 1944, to the late Willie E. and Margaret H. Rice.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Jerome V. Wood; siblings, Edward (Speck), Ronald, Howard, Johnny, and Tommy Rice; and Shirley Thirkill.

Janice professed Christ at an early age and became a member of Lovingston Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Rivermont Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Welford Duray Wood and Andrea LaVita Wood, both of Lynchburg, VA.; grandchildren Tiarria Wright, Symone Rose, Aaron Wood, TeVon Wood, Jerome D. Wood, ZauNasha Vaughan, DeAntre Wood, and Amarea Wood; great-grandchildren, Zarian Smith, Zamonte Sales, Cordasia Carter, Gi’Yauni Usry, Andraya Wood, Isaiah Wood, Da’Zyer Saunders, Khori Wood, and Kari Monroe; three brothers, Richard “Dickie” Rice (Wanda), Madison Heights VA., Theodore Rice, and Roosevelt Rice (Debbie), both of Detroit MI.; seven sisters, Barbara Rice, Sandra Rice-Fulse, Vernetta Walk (James), Doris Clark (Leon), Jacqueline Rice, Naomi Rice, and Alisha Ross all of Detroit MI.; sisters-in-law Dorothy Rice and Althea Rice of Madison Heights, VA.; special friend, Joy Jones of Lynchburg VA., whom she thought of as her daughter; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Rivermont Baptist Church with Rev. Malik Fleshman officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service, and all other times at 107 Page St. Lynchburg, VA.
