Janie Lee Leenhouts, age 82, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at English Meadows/Elks Home Campus in Bedford, Virginia. She was born on July 29, 1936 in Berryville, Arkansas to Joseph Earl and Clara Mae (Pharis) Horne. When she was a little girl their home was destroyed by a tornado so the family moved to Houston, Texas where her father was able to find work. She spent most of her life in Texas before moving to Virginia almost 20 years ago.
Janie was a member of Radford Baptist Church in Moneta, Virginia and for the past 4 years has resided at English Meadows/Elks Home Campus where she enjoyed many friends. Throughout her life she enjoyed quilting, camping/RVing, country music and dancing.
She leaves behind her three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Renee Brodin of Moneta, Virginia, Anthony and Stephanie Brodin of Waxahachie, Texas, and Greg and Judy Kitson of Huddleston, Virginia. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Justin Brodin, Amanda and Jimmy Crosby, Austin Brodin, Benjamin Brodin, Heather Taylor, Brice and Stephanie Brodin, Amy Siebert, Kaylea Brodin, and Colton Brodin; and she will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Alaina Crosby, Kenny Crosby, Chelsea Browning, Brianna Brodin, Bryson Brodin, Anthony Brodin, and Madelyn Siebert. She recently became a great-great-grandmother to Landon Browning.
Janie is also survived by her sisters, Earlene Weiss and Beverly and Joe Gust, and many nieces and nephews.
She was an attentive and loving mom, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at English Meadows/Elks Home Campus, 931 Ashland Avenue, Bedford, Virginia on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:30 pm.
The family extends special appreciation to the staff at the Elks Home for years of service, compassion and kindness.
