Janie Smith Ramsey

Janie Smith Ramsey, 81, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  She was the wife of the late Leonard Milton Ramsey.

Mrs. Ramsey was born Friday, March 16, 1928 in Charlotte County, VA, a daughter of the late Walter Hudnall Smith and Flossie Clark Smith.  She was retired from General Electric where she was in production.  She was a member of Falling River Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Delbert Wayne Ramsey and wife, Elizabeth, of Appomattox, VA, Faye R. Grix and husband, David, of Brookneal, V A, Jerri R. Bostick and husband, Randy, of Lynchburg, VA, and Ginger Raye Ramsey of Rustburg, VA; five grandchildren, Lisa Seamster, Melissa Long, Dale Ramsey, Brandon Shepherd, and Keith Shepherd; numerous great grandchildren, special family friend, Lynne Burnham, and her beloved pets, Trouble and Rocky.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Lee Smith, and her sister, Lucy Smith Ramsey.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, and all other times at the residence.  Please contact the funeral home in case of inclement weather.  A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Falling River Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Keys officiating.  Interment will follow in Falling River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Special thanks to Hospice of the Hills, Dr. William Van Dyke, and Dr. Susan Coggin for all the loving care they provided to Mrs. Ramsey during her illness.
